A common misconception is that happiness is always desirable in the behaviorist sense. It’s that idea that we humans, like animals, will always avoid pain and seek pleasure.
This is too simplistic, for it does not take into the account the internal state of the individual. For example, going to a therapy session of some sort will sometimes produce pain in the client and sometimes the therapist as well; however, if that pain also produces breakthrough, there is growth within the individual and growth is also desirable.
